Constructions Wood in constructions provides a building or an object a complete characteristic look. It has a natural look, it gives a certain amount of freedom in design and because of the suitable strength properties it can be used in slimline dimensions.Constructing with wood often takes extra attention on details. Determination of a wood specie Based on the looks and the anatomy it is often possible to determine the wood specie. This can be of importance in cases of damage, or the purchase of products and a batch of massive wood or veneer of multiplex. Foils for the building industry Foils are used to protect all kind of constructions against weather influences. Inspections on timber constructions in monumental buildings By means of a visual inspection and the judgement of the state of the timber on the inside in a monumental building , we can determine the extent of decay (insects and fungus).	Dr. René Klaassen

Inspections on laminated constructions Using laminated constructions means you have to take a lot of things in consideration: moisture content of the wood, the relative humidity, the wood specie, quality of the wood, type and manner of glueing and the way the construction is built. Moisture content in wood For a lot of uses the moisture content in wood is very important. Because of the shrinking and swelling of wood a check on the moisture content during production of joinery is absolutely necessary.	Marina van der Zee, MSc

Parquet There are all kind of parquet floors. All need their own careful treatment. From the frequent questions we get on this subject it may be concluded that rules are not consequently observed. Which cause problems like: bulging of the floor, seams and cracks occur, different kind of timber species or colours, small wholes occur that were not ther before etc.. Repair and filling material It is inevidable that small damages to a surface or deacy of joinery occurs. To solve these kind of problems special repair and filling material has been developed. Important aspects for a good performance are for instance: durability, suturing and paintability. SHR has all knowledge and equipment available to do the necessary tests. Sealing All necessary expertise and equipment is available to Identify the different properties of glazing sealants according ISO 1160 and DIN 52452. Timber research In order to make clear for what kind of uses an unknown wood specie is suitable, we can performa a sreenings test.	Dr. René Klaassen

Wooden poles All kind of timber research on wooden poles can be carried out. From a sample we can determine: wood specie, kind of wood (sapwood or heartwood), decay (type and extent) and speed of decay. If required we can also determine the age and origin of the wooden pole.	Dr. René Klaassen

Woodworm, fungus It may be clear that wood attacking insects and fungus are unliked guests. We want to get rid of them as soon as possible. To answer questions like “How can it happen?” and “How do I get rid of them”, SHR has the specific expertise and a lot of experience.	Jos Creemers, MSc
